Bat biology, Radar/collision studies, avian behavior studies
Nathan Schwab brings expertise in acoustical monitoring, mist-netting, and telemetry of bats to ABR’s strong existing program of diurnal and nocturnal avian studies (including night-vision optics) at proposed wind turbine sites. In addition to conducting radar surveys, he is examining developing bat issues. Nathan also is developing acoustic methods for use as a surveillance tool in early detection of White-nose syndrome for bats in the western US. Nathan received his masters from the University of Montana, and among other accomplishments, co-authored the Bat Conservation Plan for the State of Montana. His thesis research focused on determining characteristics of roost trees for bats in recently burned forest to provide management guidelines in post-fire forests.
