Wetland Science
Biological Resource Studies for the Allison Lake Hydro Project, Valdez, Alaska (2009–PRESENT)
Client: Hatch Acres
ABR performed a preliminary wetlands determination, wetland functional assessment, and habitat assessment in support of the permitting process for a proposed hydroelectric project.
Wetlands Determination and Functional Assessment for the Nome Airport Master Plan Update, Nome, Alaska (2009–present)
Client: Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities with PDC Inc. Engineers
ABR performed a preliminary wetlands determination and wetlands functional assessment to support an update of the Nome Airport Master Plan.
Wetlands Delineation for Proposed Gas Line Project (2008–2009)
Client: Denali – The Alaska Gas Pipeline, LLC
ABR completed wetland field determinations, including classifying and mapping wetlands for the Delta to Alaska/Canada section of the proposed alignment. Determination of wetland types using standard Army Corps of Engineers wetlands protocols.
Environmental Assessments for Airport Projects in Alaska (2003–2005)
Client: Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities and
DOWL Engineers, Inc.
ABR conducted wetlands assessments of three airports in 2003 (Holy
Cross, Bettles, Birch Creek) and four airports in 2004 (Allakaket,
Chalkyitsik, Koyuk, Prospect Creek) to support the preparation of NEPA
documents (environmental assessments) and permits for airport
improvements at each site. Tasks included wetland field surveys;
classifying and mapping wetlands, vegetation, and wildlife habitats; and
evaluating wetland functional values. ABR scientists prepared the
environmental assessments for each of the airport projects, including
agency and public scoping, preparing environmental permit applications
(e.g., Section 404), and evaluating the occurrence of historic properties
(SHPO).
Environmental Assessment for the Morris Thompson Visitors and Cultural Center, Fairbanks, Alaska (2002–2004)
Clients: City of Fairbanks and NORTECH Environmental and Engineering Consultants
ABR staff managed the NEPA process during the preparation of the
environmental assessment (EA) and prepared the EA sections on fish and
wildlife, wetlands, and water resources and waterbodies. Our staff was
also responsible for compiling and editing the EA for content and ensuring
consistency with NEPA policies and Federal Highway Administration
protocols. We also attended the agency scoping meeting and the public
meetings and responded to public and agency comments on the draft EA.
