National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document,
such as an environmental assessment (EA) or an environmental
impact statement (EIS). Other projects may require
a less comprehensive analysis, such as an environmental
evaluation, which may help regulators determine
whether an EA or EIS is warranted. Environmental
impact assessments also allow project managers to
gather baseline data and determine appropriate mitigation
measures to aid project planning. Baseline studies
or field experiments may need to be designed to
answer specific questions regarding project impacts
on the environment.
