Ecological Land Surveys

Ecological Land Survey (ELS) is an interdisciplinary research approach that integrates field-collected information pertaining to biological and physical ecosystem components, with satellite imagery and other remote sensing data sources to classify and map ecosystem properties at a variety of spatial scales. ABR has mapped over 40 million acres in Alaska using the ELS approach, an area roughly the size of the state of Wisconsin. Our map products support diverse applications related to natural resource management, risk and impact assessments, land-use capacities, and contingency planning.
