Graphite Creek Water Quality

An ABR field crew completed the third year of water quality surveys for the Graphite One mining project outside of Nome, Alaska, collecting both surface water and groundwater samples for laboratory chemical analysis for a full suite of metal analytes. The team sampled surface water from a dozen streams across the project area and sub-surface water from over a dozen established well sites. In addition to water sampling, the team downloaded data from temperature thermistors and well transducer pressure sensors at each well site. In 2025, we published a comprehensive analysis of long-term trends in water chemistry, tracing changes in analyte abundance since the original sampling program began in 2013 under previous contractors.
